Timberwolves Take 2 of 3 Stars in 2nd Week of Season
In the second week of the MHL regular season, Miramichi Timberwolves’ players have landed in two of three top spots!
First star honours went to Miramichi Timberwolves forward Rankyn Campbell. The 20 year old posted six points in two games as the Timberwolves went undefeated over the weekend. Hosting the Dieppe Commandos on Saturday night, Campbell scored two goals, added an assist and was named the game’s first star as Miramichi overcame a 3-1 second period deficit to down their provincial rivals 6-3.
The next afternoon, Campbell played a large role in spoiling the home opener for the Summerside Western Capitals with his goal and two helpers as the Timberwolves beat the defending Kent Cup Champions 7-4. The Galloway, NB native assisted on the eventual game winner at Eastlink Arena early in the third, while potting the insurance goal minutes later.
The third year veteran of the MHL comes into the 2013-2014 season with 149 career points to his credit in 144 regular season games with Miramichi and Campbellton.
The third star of the week was Campbell’s Timberwolves teammate, Danny Wicks. The 20 year old from Mount Pearl, NFLD racked up five points in two games. On Friday, Wicks scored a goal and added an assist in the Timberwolves 6-3 win over Dieppe at home. Wicks goal at the 38 second mark of the third tied the game up at three and helped lead Miramichi to the come from behind win.
On Saturday, Wicks posted three assists in his team’s 7-4 victory in Summerside. One of Wicks’ three helpers came on the eventual game winning goal, scored by Justin O’Reilly early in the third. Wicks is already well ahead of his scoring pace from last season, when he produced 39 points in 52 games for Miramichi.
Truro Bearcats defenseman Daniel Poliziani took the second star.
The Timberwolves next home game happens this Saturday night, September 28th, when they host the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. Game time is 7:30 pm.
