Miramichi will host more than 300 athletes and coaches from NB and PEI for the 2019 Special Olympics NB Winter Games, February 21st to 24th, 2019. Check out this article for the Sporting Schedules!
The Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club has teamed up with local libraries to offer everyone with a New Brunswick library card the opportunity to check out a day pass for the club’s ski and snowshoe trails.
The application dates have been announced for the regular Crown reserve angling. Anglers will be able to apply between February 4th and March 1st, 2019 to fish regular Crown reserve waters.
On Monday, January 28th, 2019, Maritime NHL’ers for Kids and Stanley Cup winner Brad Marchand introduced a NEW program as part of the Event’s 20th Anniversary celebrations. The program will help young boys and girls in the Maritimes get on the ice. “Marchy’s Maritime Kids” will see Brad donate $100 for every goal he scores this season. The donation will be made directly to Jumpstart, the official charity of Maritime NHL’ers for Kids.
The Canadian Junior Hockey League is partnering with GradeSlam, an on-demand, chat-based tutoring service, to provide unlimited one-on-one online tutoring for any subject, at any time, for its players who wish to receive educational assistance throughout the remainder of the 2018-19 season and beyond.
The 2018 Scott Knowles Memorial Hockey Pool is in full swing. Entry fee is #20 for 1, $50 for 3 and $100 for 7. Entry deadline is Wednesday, October 17, 2018 @ 8 PM. Prizes and Rules are all found on entry form as well.
Calling all Women! Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., come out to Women’s Exercise Classes! Women’s Exercises Classes are offered at the Parish Centre of the Saint Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church, 36 Saint Samuel’s Street in the former Village of Douglastown (Miramichi), just across the street from the Seamen’s Hospital. For just $2.00 per person and everyone is welcome to attend!!
The Annual Pumpkin Fling will be hosted September 29th, 2018 at Waterfront Green Miramichi East. Once again Autism Resources Miramichi will be joining in on the Pumpkin Fling celebration. Brad Burns, our Miramichi Salmon and Fishing Guru is back with his Fishing Report and shares the news that the Natoaganeg First Nation “Eel Ground” has been granted approval by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for a commercial striped bass fishery with a quota of 50,000 fish per year. The details of the distribution are unclear at this time, but the times when the fishery will be conducted are in late May/June and then again in October. These are the times when the fish are in the river spawning and later preparing to overwinter.
After one of the better June’s in a few years we ran out of luck, or at least most of it. July has been hot, but it is the timing of that heat that has been the killer. It actually began the last day of June, and just as the heart of the summer run was scheduled to arrive we had a week of 30C range temperatures.

The Ironmen split a season opening double header in the Port City winning the first game 4-1 and dropping the second to Saint John 8-3. Jason Jarvis tossed a no-hitter in his Ironmen debut allowing one run with 5 k’s and two walks in game one.
