The MRC Theatre Festival is a community-based, fringe-style theatre festival to be held August 14 to 18, 2019 in Miramichi. The Miramichi River Community (MRC) Theatre Festival has begun planning its second year and has put out a call for writers to submit their works. These pieces can be scripts, short stories, poems, and can be in any genre. Scripts will be either performed as full productions or read by actors in script readings, short stories will either be read or adapted into short plays, and poetry will either be read or used as audio in physical theatre pieces. The deadline to submit pieces is July 1, 2019.
The Miramichi Sportsmens Club is a dynamic sport shooting facility providing a safe, well maintained environment for many styles of sport and recreational shooting. Established in 1984, the range provides local and visiting members with access to a variety of sanctioned and non-sanctioned events tailored for youth shooters up to seniors. Their location is 10231 Route 11, Glenwood (Redmondville), NB, near St. Margarets.
Creative Writing Workshops will be held at the Newcastle Public Library on Wednesday evenings, from June 12th to July 31st. This is a free weekly class for like-minded individuals to gather, discuss and write about interesting ideas, weird ideas, all the ideas! Open to all creative minds 16 years and up.
The Barryville Golden Age Club will be hosting their Annual Lobster Supper and Dance will be taking place on Saturday evening, June 8th, 2019. The supper begins at 6:30 p.m. with a dance to follow at 8:00 p.m. with music by Eastern Sound. Everyone is welcome to attend!
From 10 am to 7 pm on Friday, June 14th, 2019 and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, June 15th, 2019, come out to the Unique Family Centre of Néguac Inc. located at 1279 rue Principale Street, Néguac for their Annual Flower Sale. There will be a variety of flowers and plants available on that particular day at various prices.
On Thursday, June 13th, 2019, come out to the Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, located at 360 Newcastle Boulevard in Newcastle (Miramichi West) for the 12:05 p.m. noon mass for Father Antonio Reyes’ 35th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood Celebration and Birthday Celebration. Following the mass, everyone is welcome to a lunch in the basement of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
Pottersfield Press is pleased to announce that Through Sunlight and Shadows, by the late Raymond Fraser, a Miramichi born writer has won the New Brunswick Book Award for fiction. Through Sunlight and Shadows is an autobiographical novel about a young boy set in the small New Brunswick town of Bannonbridge in the 1940s and 1950s. The New Brunswick Book Awards are awarded annually by The Fiddlehead and the Writer’s Federation of New Brunswick.
On Saturday, June 15th, 2019, from 1 pm to 3 pm, come out to the Newcastle Public Library for a Miramichi Book Launch: The Great Trees of New Brunswick (2nd Edition), by authors Tracy Glynn and David Palmer. The book will be available for sale on that day courtesy of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. This event is free and open to the public. Presented by the Newcastle Public Library and Goose Lane Editions.
Come one and all out to a “Celebration of Life” – 60th Anniversary of the Escuminac Disaster – June 15th and 16th, 2019 in Escuminac and the surrounding areas.
On May 20th Jessica Lange started her journey of running 26 marathons in 26 days from Quebec City to Halifax and from Paris to Chartres in France, where her younger brother lives with schizophrenia. Her goal is to raise money and awareness to support mental illnesses. She will be running into Miramichi this weekend and staying with Lill Jenkins for a short rest before continuing her run.
The Beaubears Island Interpretive Centre is now open for the 2019 season. Come out and see what the centre has to offer this season from Guided Tours Through Time, Voyageur Canoe Rides, a Picnic, Graveyard Tours, Campfire Night and so much more!
The 5th Annual River Run 4 Vets in Doaktown. Starts with a sail (canoe) down the beautiful Miramichi at 11 am from the McNamee Footbridge to Doaktown on Saturday, June 29,2019. (July long weekend). It ends with entertainment and a BBQ steak or chicken dinner at Branch #23 Doaktown Legion. Full package for the event is $30 which includes a River Run t-shirt, dinner plus many other goodies. Or you can just attend the dinner for $15.
