Province observes Active Living Week for Seniors
The provincial government is observing Active Living Week for Seniors, Oct. 19-25, by promoting physical, volunteer, social and cultural activities in New Brunswick.
“No matter what your age, you are never too old to start living a healthy and active lifestyle,” Healthy and Inclusive Communities Minister Cathy Rogers said. “It’s important that we take occasions like this week to promote the positive benefits of living a more fulfilling life through wellness.”
The province offers seniors a variety of programs, services, and promotional material, to help them learn more about living healthier and more active lives today and for years to come.
The Active NB Seniors toolkit is a guide to encourage seniors, their friends and families to be more active every day. The Aging Well Seniors Toolkit provides ideas to encourage senior groups to work together to enhance their wellness by making healthy food choices, engaging in physical activity, improving their mental fitness and resilience, and by living a tobacco-free lifestyle. These resources can be obtained by calling 506-453-4217. More tips about seniors and healthy aging are available online.
Seniors, their families and caregivers can also learn more about programs and other services that are available to them by calling the toll-free Seniors Information Line at 1-855-550-0552.
“As a province with an aging population, the government has a responsibility to create environments that help all New Brunswickers live the best and healthiest lifestyle they can,” said Rogers. “By working closely with community organizations and leaders, wellness networks and motivated individuals, we will make a difference for all as we move New Brunswick forward.”
