An August Full of Fun!
Just because July is over doesn’t mean we are nearing the end of summer fun! There is still lots to do and see in Atlantic Canada’s Great Outdoors all throughout the month of August!
Canada’s longest standing Folk Song Festival will be celebrating its 60th anniversary featuring five days of authentic, traditional and contemporary music for the whole family. Natalie MacMaster will be headlining the opening ceremonies on August 7th at the Miramichi Civic Centre!
Celebrate our region’s Acadian heritage with their stories of courage and resilience on August 15th. Sample traditional Acadian dishes and enjoy Francophone music. Spectate upon the Tintamarre, a very noisy parade! A true family event with something for everyone!
Have you ever tried a haggis sausage? Well here is your chance! The Miramichi Highland Society celebrates its 175th anniversary on the Miramichi during the Annual Scottish Festival August 18-20.New this year will be a Victorian Tea at MacDonald Farm heritage site served by Scottish settlers in traditional costume! Other great events include a BBQ and Scottish Pub night!
TIMBERRR!! Get your best plaid ready for the Woodmen’s Museum’s annual Professional Lumberjack Competition. Competition highlights include axe throwing, log cutting, the springboard chop, the best “man on the log” and more! August 19-20.
Are you ready to get dirty? Miramichi Mud Fest will be celebrating its tenth anniversary on August 19th with a full roster of exciting activities including activities for the kids and entertainment by Short Sweet Ride & Hazzard.
August 19-20 is Sport & Compact Bike Weekend at the Miramichi Dragway!
Join Metepenagiag in celebrating the repatriation of 60,000 Indigenous Artifacts! The opening ceremonies begin at 11 am on August 26 to be followed by a traditional indigenous feast of roasted fish, wild game and locally foraged greens! After the feast you can join in on traditional music and dancing until 4 pm!
Do your downward dog with a view on August 26th at Miramichi’s Second Annual Yoga Fest which will be held at Middle Island Historical Park. A full day of yoga classes and workshops! Highlighting local teachers and the full spectrum of yoga offered in the community.
