Miramichi Festival of Tall Ships July 7-9, 2017
This weekend the river comes alive with the Miramichi Festival of Tall Ships!
On Friday July 7th, 2017 welcome the Tall Ships from the shore. Ships set sail from Escuminac at 12 noon to dock in Chatham and Newcastle. Enjoy live music from 6-8 pm on the wharfs Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday and Sunday tour the Tall Ships at both wharfs! There will be Face Painting and family activities at both locations all day long! See the Tall Ships from the water in a 26 foot Voyageur Canoe, enjoy a historic picnic on Beaubears Island in period costume, venture into Wilson’s Point for a nighttime Graveyard Tour, meet the Tall Ships captains, and much more!
Daily events also include the return of the Pirates of Halifax! There will be plenty of free photo opportunities for the whole family. See the Tall Ships from the air by taking a helicopter ride with Advanced Heli-Flight Ltd. It’s $60 per person for a six minute tour. Flights will run Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.
Come try riding a Segway with Segway Sue in the parking lot of 99.3 The River, across from Ritchie Wharf in Newcastle. It’s $10 per person. From 2-6 pm on Friday, 10 am – 6 pm on Saturday, and 10 am – 5 pm on Sunday.
Miramichi River Boat Tours presents their Interpretive Tall Ships Tour for $15 per person. Enjoy a 90 minute sail on the Max Aitken. Tours depart from Ritchie Wharf in Newcastle.
Escape Miramichi invites you to come try to escape their newest room, Pirate’s Treasure. Admission is $20 per person. Groups of 2 – 8 people. Ages 14 plus. By appointment (506-626-0700). Located at 1756 Water Street in Chatham. Other rooms also available.
Come to the waterfront to watch the spectacle of lights reflected on the water as the Miramichi’s Boating Community participates in the “Light Up The River” competition. Prizes for the Best Decorated boats will be awarded by local businesses.
Bracelets for the Miramichi Festival of Tall Ships are available at Scott’s Pharmasave (Chatham), Dickison’s Pharmasave (Newcastle), Jean Coutu Pharmacy (Chatham & Newcastle), and the Visitor Information Centre (French Fort Cove). They are also available at both wharves. Kids under 10 are FREE, $10 for Adults, and a Family of 5 is $30 (for 2 adults and 3 children up to 17 yrs). Bracelets are good for entry at both wharves for the entire weekend (must be unbroken).
Food and beverage vendors will be available at both wharf location. Cash only at both locations. ATM’s are located close to the Newcastle wharf (TD, Scotiabank, RBC).
