Miramichi Valley Baseball League Awards Banquet
The Miramichi Valley Baseball League Old-timers Tournament got under way over the weekend and continues through this week. The tournament’s annual Community Awards Banquet was held on Saturday July 25th at the Chatham Head Recreation Centre.
The evening is to recognise and honour individuals who made a significant contribution in Coaching, Playing or Building the baseball community.
Receiving awards for their dedication, volunteering, and their love of the sport were: Gary Wood, Coach for the Newcastle Cardinals; Les Mitchell, Player for the Douglastown Rangers; Sonny Drisdelle, Builder for the Chatham Head Tigers; and Tom Dunn (1977-2015), Builder for the Chatham Ironmen.
Gary Dunn was also recognized for his contribution to the Chatham Head community by being awarded the Anthony Goguen Memorial.
Honoured guests for the evening included Mayor Gerry Cormier, the Honourable Bill Fraser, and the Honourable Tilly O’Neill Gordon, who also presented certificates to each of the Community Awards inductees and the Anthony Goguen Memorial Award.
The crowd also enjoyed the selections of Green Green Grass of Home and Forty Shades of Green by Gerry Roberts in memory of Tom Dunn.
