MSA Addresses Parliamentary Standing Committee
On Tuesday, May 26, 2015, Board Officers from the Miramichi Salmon Association appeared via video-conferencing before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans. This Committee, made up of 10 Members of Parliament from across Canada, is conducting a study on Recreational Fisheries in Canada and as such, is seeking input and opinions from a wide array of stakeholders, including angling and conservation groups like the MSA.
The MSA’s testimony began with an Opening Statement, delivered by MSA Chairman Emeritus Bud Bird, followed by a round of questioning from individual Committee members. Participating with Bud Bird in these hearings were fellow MSA Officers Vice-Chairman Brian Moore and President Mark Hambrook.
The request to appear before this Parliamentary Standing Committee is strong evidence that the ongoing efforts of the Miramichi Salmon Association to engage and participate in constructive salmon conservation dialogue with both Federal and provincial fisheries policy makers is proving successful.
