Disability Issues Workshop

The Board of Miramichi Independent Living Resource Centre would like to invite all persons with disabilities, family members, friends, care providers, professionals, community organizations, government departments and anyone else who is interested in disability issues to participate in a workshop which will include the following sessions.
A. Estate Planning For A Family Member with a Disability
Mr. Ken Pike, author, lawyer, and activist from Rothesay, NB, who has extensive experience in wills and estates, housing and other issues related to people with disabilities will provide the opportunity for participants to explore the importance of trusts, wills, and financial/estate planning for a family member with a disability.
B. Are You a Penny Saver or Penny Taker
Ms. Jocelyn Brown, Director of Education with Credit Counselling Services of Atlantic Canada Inc., a registered non-profit organization will provide the opportunity for participants to learn about the cost of credit, a step by step approach to tailoring your own spending plan, find out exactly what a credit report is and how everyday consumers can build an emergency fund and much more.
C. Direct Funding for Attendant Services: Putting Control Where It Belongs
Mr. Mike Murphy, Chairperson of the Ontario Network of Independent Living Resources Centres and National Board Member of the Canadian Association of Independent Living Resource Centres will address the challenges pertaining to Attendant Care such as ensuring the quality and retention of services.
