unique balance between technical skill and artistic expression. “I find
that painting and drawing engage the mind in both problem-solving
and experimentation,” he says. “It is necessary to navigate
composition, perspective, shape, colour and texture – all at the same Pine Martin
time. I find that it provides a way to capture moments that would
otherwise be lost, and to convey stories, about what we see in our
environment, and how I perceive it.”
Terry Matthews’ paintings range from landscapes, still life,
seascapes, and now he mostly does pet portraits and Canadian wildlife.
He has taken several art workshops and courses, and at university
studied the “Aesthetics of Art” from a psychology perspective. Terry’s
passion for art extends to teaching as well; he has taught over 150 local
adults to draw and paint over the past few years and currently teaches
acrylics. He is also working with a Miramichi author, Doug Dolan, to
create illustrations for a book of short stories.
