Seasonal Activities at
The Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club
The Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club is located within
the city, right on route 126 in Nelson. The new clubhouse is
essentially roadside and the former club house, further back
nestled by the woods with the word “DISK” visible on the
side, is used by the Owl’s Rest Disc Golf Club during off-
season.
Although summer is obviously a quieter time for ski club
activities, the trails are made available to the public for
walking, running and cycling for a nominal fee. The 2.5 Red
Trail or 4 km Lighted Trail are especially suited for family
biking. Dogs on leashes are allowed. Please watch out for
disc golf users, who will be sharing a portion of the trail. Fees
are $2 a day per person or $4 per family and $20 and $40 a
season, respectively. An e-transfer can be sent to The trailhead in summer, photo by Peter Gadd.

biathlon season runs most of the year, with training on roller
skis when snow isn’t available - you might see us on the
newly paved stretch on the Chatham Riverfront trail. Range
shooting practices take place at the MCCSC where our own
certified shooting range opened in the 2019-20 season.
Miramichi Biathletes Inc. also run a Biathlon Bears
program during the winter for youth aged 8-14 where
children learn the basic skills of biathlon in a safe and fun
environment through a variety of drills, games and relays.
Biathlon is a sport that challenges you mentally and
physically. If you are interested in learning more about this
sport, please reach out to MBI President Laura Perry at

A local running group, the Miramichi River Runners

Another sport that is held at the club pretty well year-
round is biathlon. Miramichi Biathlon Club President Laura
Perry explains:
“Biathlon in Miramichi is alive and well! Biathlon is a
sport with a unique blend of high heart rate endurance
(skiing) with precision shooting and Miramichi is one of the
best places in all of New Brunswick for competition as well
as for training. Biathlon is a sport for all ages, and the athletes Biathlon Athletes Training in Chatham, photo by Peter Gadd.
