Community Tidbits
The Miramichi Rotary Community Band
is looking for new members for the coming year
- this includes all brass or reed instruments (flute,
clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, baritone,
trombone, tuba, etc.) and can include bass guitar
and drums. Applicants should be able to read
music at least at a beginner level.
This brass and reed band has existed in
Miramichi since 1995 and is a continuation of the
former CFB Chatham Base Band. Over the years
we have played at multiple venues, with a three-
year absence due to Covid. Any interested
parties can contact Greg MacDiarmid after hours
or weekends at 506-624-7777. The Miramichi Rotary Community Band at Losier Hall last December.
Thomas Jardine announces the publication of his first novel Iggy & Jake, by Rogue
Phoenix Press in Salem Oregon. Tom was born and raised on the River, a Chatham 'townie',
as he says, who played minor ball and hockey and graduated from Chatham High School in
1963. He has played with various bands and spent many Saturday nights playing at dances
with John Newman and The Esquires. He has now retired to the Annapolis Valley in Nova
Scotia and remains blessed with many wonderful memories of the Miramichi.
Iggy & Jake - It is 1969. Iggy and Jake are two rock musicians who decide to leave their
mundane jobs and travel west in search of finding that elusive record label. Their journey
takes them to Calgary where they plan to hook up with an old-time buddy, only to discover
he has been the victim of foul play. Two jaded Calgary PD detectives utilize the talents of
the street-wise musicians and they are soon involved in an international drug bust in which
their lives and those of their friends are at great risk.
Iggy & Jake is now out and available in an eBook or print format on Amazon,
barnesandnoble.com, Apple books and more. His second book, titled Ogopog is due to be
released this November.
Ashton Tucker Becomes The First Four-
Time Yard Gear 250 Champion!
Ashton Tucker (#2) made history by
claiming his fourth Yard Gear 250 presented
by Valvoline Motor Oil in epic fashion early
in September at Speedway 660. Tucker led
the race three times for 58 laps, but would
take the lead for the final time by getting
around Austin MacDonald (#13) with just
ten (10) laps remaining and never looked
back en route to the historic victory that was
worth upwards of $19,000 for the Brad
Silliker Motorsports team.
