The Story of Finn

By Monica McIntyre, Escuminac Beach and Family Park

In a cozy corner of Escuminac Beach and Family Park,
where the sun kisses the sea and the sand sparkles like
stardust, there stood Finn. A wood carved log with a soulful
        story.
Finn, named after Hurricane Fiona, wasn't always a log.
He was once a flourishing tree with branches reaching out to
the sky as if to embrace the clouds. Birds sang in his leaves
and life thrived all around him. But fate had other plans. His
life as a tree abruptly ended, leaving him adrift in the vastness
of the sea, a mere shadow of his former self.
The waves cradled Finn, carrying him through storms
and serene days alike, until he found solace on the shores of
        Escuminac Beach.
Taking in its picturesque salty breeze, it was here that
camper Patrick Wiecrorek, an artist from Ottawa with ties to
the area, brought his coffee and tools each morning. With
gentle hands and a heart full of stories, he carved Finn, giving
him a new purpose and in a way bringing him back to life.
Finn will always be more than just a log; he's a guardian
of the beach, a silent observer of the endless dance between
the tides and the shore, a humble reminder. He silently
watches over the visitors, sharing in their laughter and their
reflective moments as they too gaze into the horizon.
Finn's story is a testament to life's cycle. From seedling
to growth and weathering, it reminds us that even when life
takes unexpected turns, there is beauty in resilience and a new
purpose can be carved out of the remnants of the past. Finn basks in the sun and watches over visitors to Escuminac

in the company of Finn, please remember his journey. Let it
inspire you to embrace the ebbs and flows of life, knowing
that an ending can be the start of something new and
        beautiful.
We thank you Patrick for that reminder!
