Premier to attend Pond Hockey
Hon. David Alward to drop the ceremonial first puck.
The Rotary Club of Newcastle is pleased to announce New Brunswick Premier David Alward will be in attendance at the opening ceremonies on Friday February 4th.
In addition to dropping the ceremonial first puck between the oldest and youngest players in the event, the premier will have a chance to watch some pond hockey and mingle with the crowd in what has become Miramichi’s premier winter tourism event.
Premier Alward is the latest in a series of leaders to make an appearance at ice level. Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed the opening ceremonies in 2009, and last year then Premier Shawn Graham laced up to play a game as part of the Big Brothers team. Pond hockey Co-chair Geri Mahoney expressed delight the Premier is able to make it. “This weekend is the most fun we have all year as Rotarian volunteers, and we are pleased the Premier will get a chance to experience our famous Miramichi hospitality.” The 7th annual Miramichi Rotary Pond Hockey tournament will be held at the Miramichi Airport on February 4th-6th, 2011, with the net proceeds going towards Rotary projects. See you on the tarmac!
