The Moncton Hospital opens new clinic to better serve patients and families
The Moncton Hospital will be opening a new oncology clinic that will offer advanced care for cancer patients and their families across the Maritimes. This new clinic has been brought to the province by Horizon Health Network and the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.
The Moncton Hospital provides one of the most active medical oncology services in the province, and the new clinic will provide patients from New Brunswick and neighbouring provinces access to some of the best Oncologists in the country. The clinic will begin receiving patients later this month.
“I am proud to join with the Friends of the Moncton Hospital and Horizon Health Network to open this new 17,000-square foot facility which will better accommodate patients, provide better access and more privacy and offer better overall quality of care for cancer patients and their families,” said Minister Cathy Rodgers on behalf of Health Minister Victor Boudreau.
The former clinic was only 8,550 square feet and families were unable to visit during treatment. The new facility offers twenty-eight treatment stations in a large space, allowing patients to have someone stay with them during treatment. The clinic has also created an additional five exam rooms as well as added research space and oncology-pharmacy services.
The project was funded largely by the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, who contributed $6 million to the project, and the provincial government, who provided $3.5 million.
“We are happy that this modern facility for cancer patients has been completed,” said Paul Arsenault, Foundation Chair. “We can now demonstrate to our donors that their funds are being used to fulfill the vision for which they were given.”
The facility will provide the province with chemotherapy regimens, interdisciplinary services, prevention and risk assessment education, procedures, transfusions, urgent care for patients with complications, consultations to other service providers, specimen collection, and pharmacy services. The new clinic will be a huge asset to cancer patients and their families across the region.
