The Miramichi Timberwolves have announced that Carl (Butch) Watters has joined the team as an Assistant Coach for the 2014/2015 season. Watters was Head Coach of the Miramichi Rivermen of the NB/PEI Major Midget Hockey League last season and guided them to a third place finish with a 22-10-0-2 record.
The Miramichi Timberwolves also selected Miramichi Rivermen goaltender Tanner Somers with their Territorial Pick in advance of the 2014 MHL Draft in Summerside. Somers was 10-5 this season with a 3.21GAA and .897 SV%. Somers also participated in the QMJHL Gatorade Excellence Challenge with U16 Team NB.
The Miramichi Timberwolves named Andrew Lavoie as their PEI scout. Lavoie is an Assistant Coach with the Charlottetown Islanders of the NB/PEI Major Midget Hockey League.
The Miramichi Timberwolves are proud to acknowledge that Head Coach/Director of Player Personnel Robert MacDonald will serve as a consultant with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL. Coach MacDonald will be responsible for free agents and will also be a consultant to General Manager Sylvain Couturier.
Two Miramichi Timberwolves players were selected by the St. Stephen County Aces in the MHL Expansion Draft Tuesday.
Benji Gaudet (’95) from Tignish, PEI and Tanner Whiffen (’96) from St. John’s, NL were taken by St. Stephen, which selected 21players from MHL teams.
Gaudet had 6 goals and 3 assists in 51 games for the Timberwolves during the 2012/2013 season.
