Rebuilding New Brunswick after the Great Miramichi Fire of 1825
The November meeting of the Miramichi Historical Society will feature a special presentation on the Great Miramichi Fire of 1825 and will be held Monday Nov 13, 2017 at 7pm. The meeting is open to the public and there will be no business meeting as such and we will be meeting in St James and St John United Church, King George Highway, Miramichi West.
The guest speaker is Dr. Stephen Patterson, professor emeritus of UNB. His talk is entitled Rebuilding New Brunswick after the Great Miramichi Fire of 1825. This illustrated talk will focus on the work of William and James Murray, Scottish Master builder in the Miramichi.
St. James and St. John United Church was built by William Murray in 1829, having been destroyed in the Fire of 1825 – a timely place for this presentation. His son James Murray is buried in the graveyard of St. James and St. John.
This promises to be a very interesting and informative evening and we are looking forward to a good turnout. Guests are very welcome! There will be coffee and time to talk to Dr. Patterson following the presentation. If you have any questions please call Barbara MacIntosh at 622-1020.
