Blackville’s Centennial Field Grand Re-opening
The Blackville 49ers and Mosquito teams will mark the grand re-opening of the recently upgraded Centennial Field in Blackville on Thursday, July 9. Admission is free.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned to commemorate the overhaul of the baseball park beginning at 6:00pm. The two new mosquito teams, children aged nine to eleven, will play each other, followed by the men’s 49ers facing off with Miramichi at 7:30pm.
The canteen will be open, and is open all summer long during practices and games.
Upgrades to the ball park began last summer as a joint project between the provincial government and the village of Blackville. The $80,000 investment also provided improvements to the municipal park.
Improvements to the ball park include replacements of wooden bleachers and dugouts with steel and chain link versions, new fencing and gravel, and field excavation. In case of rain, the grand re-opening would occur on the following Thursday.
