35th Annual Parade of Lights Officially Cancelled
The Historic Chatham Business District (HCBD) has announced the formal cancellation of this year’s Parade of Lights.
“It’s my understanding this is the first time in 35 years the parade will not occur”, says John Vickers, General Manager of the Historic Chatham Business District. “This news was speculated by many and now our wonderful parade is yet another unfortunate event casualty of the pandemic.”
Vickers says he attended the provincial AGM of Business Associations from around the province last week and the Miramichi is certainly not alone with the knowledge that all municipal holiday parades in New Brunswick have been cancelled or are being cancelled. With no parade, Vickers notes it will leave a significant celebratory deficiency in the community for the holidays.
“All is not lost this year as we are giving thought to creating a new COVID-smart holiday activity”, says Vickers. “One idea is to turn one-way Water Street into a much elevated 24-HR holiday drive-thru spectacle for both pedestrians and drivers and let’s see what takes shape.”
Giv’er Miramichi is about “What’s up, what’s new, what’s happening”. We are focused on building people up, supporting one another and celebrating our successes.
