New Brunswickers encouraged to complete census questionnaire
New Brunswickers are encouraged to complete their census forms this May.
“All levels of government rely on the information collected during the census to plan for the future provision of services like education, housing, skills training, public transportation and police and fire services,” said Finance Minister Roger Melanson.
Statistics Canada conducts a census every five years. New Brunswickers will begin receiving their census letters in the mail next week.
The letters include instructions on how to complete the questionnaire online, as well as a toll-free number for those who wish to request a paper questionnaire.
The data collected is used to calculate federal transfer payments to New Brunswick, said Melanson.
“It is important that New Brunswickers participate in the census,” he said. “Every person not counted results in a loss of dollars to our province.”
Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet also reminded agricultural operators in the province about the 2016 Census of Agriculture, which is taking place at the same time and can also be completed online.
“This is the definitive source of community-level data for farms,” said Doucet. “By drawing on this information, decision-makers know they are acting in the interests of farmers, farm communities and agricultural operations across Canada.”
More information on the two questionnaires is available online.
