Reading & Boat Ride Tonight
Miramichi’s longest running performance art series, Words on Water invites you aboard the Max Aitken this evening Thursday July 9th for a pre-publication reading from Tom Creaghan’s upcoming book Talented Miramichiers in the Gilded Age. The Miramichi River cruise will depart from Ritchie Wharf at 7 pm sharp. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased dockside.
Creaghan lives in Burnt Church and based his book on a Miramichi family whose exploits were shaped by the opportunities of the time. European and North American historical and economic developments were used to frame the story and provide a stage whereon his characters could act.
It took Creaghan more than six years to research and write this book, longer if you consider the stories which were incubating over the years in his head. Now at the age of 83, Tom says the book would suit anyone who wants a good read about real Miramichiers who made it big during the gilded age.
