National Foster Family Week
The following message was issued by Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers in observance of National Foster Family Week, Oct. 19-25:
This week provides us with an excellent opportunity to recognize and celebrate the essential role that foster families play in the development of children.
I thank each individual and family who makes the commitment to offer love, support and stability to the children and youth who are in foster care. We owe an incredible amount of gratitude to these outstanding people who open their homes and hearts to children in need.
Foster Family Week is also a time to recognize the knowledgeable and dedicated social workers who provide valuable guidance and support in working with children in care and foster families.
Our government has pledged to make New Brunswick the best place in which to a raise family. It is fitting that Foster Family Week will remind us of our responsibility to provide social services that New Brunswickers expect and deserve.
At any given time in our province, there are about 1,000 children in foster care. The need for foster families is ongoing, and it can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences.
I encourage anyone interested in becoming a foster family to contact their regional office of Social Development, call 1-800-990-0119 or visit the departments’ website.
Giv’er Miramichi is about “What’s up, what’s new, what’s happening”. We are focused on building people up, supporting one another and celebrating our successes.
