Canada’s Irish Festival Under Way in Miramichi
The 29th Annual Irish Festival got under way in Miramichi last night with a live outdoor concert at Waterford Green in Chatham and continues throughout the weekend with many performances, workshops, displays and cultural events. The official Opening Ceremonies happen this evening at the Lord Beaverbrook Arena from 7-8:30 pm.
The Festival’s mandate is to create an awareness of Irish Culture for the descendants of the many Irish immigrants who chose to settle along the banks of the Miramichi River. They concentrate on a variety of aspects of Irish culture, one of which includes a large number of free workshops and demonstrations offering festival-goers the opportunity to learn more about traditional Irish dance and music, Irish legends and stories, food, and other aspects of culture.
Whether you’re Irish or not, there’s something for all ages and budgets (many things are free!) at Canada’s Irish Festival in Miramichi from world class performances of music and dance to live theatre, workshops and vendors.

And to help get you get in touch with your inner Irish spirit, we’ve got a very special blast from the past. Our editor, Kellie Underhill, grew up in the Miramichi region but never actually attended an Irish Festival until 2003. From the Mighty Miramichi archives, here’s a blog post she wrote about her first time experience, nine years ago! Enjoy! Click here to read her post.
