National Acadian Day Celebration
National Acadian Day is tomorrow, Thursday August 15, 2013. Come and Celebrate l’Acadie at the Queen Elizabeth Park at the Town Square in Newcastle.
The day will begin with a short ceremony followed with the “tintamarre” around the Town Square at 11:30 am. Tintamarre is an Acadian tradition of marching through one’s community making noise with improvised instruments and other noisemakers.
At noon the party will begin with the musical groups Danny Party and “Suroît” from the Magdalen Islands. For the children there will be face painting, games and a show featuring three percussionists. Acadian food and crafts will also be on sale for the day.
